Hi and welcome to the wonderful world of sailing! My name is Captain Tom Connelly and I’d like to introduce you to this exciting and enjoyable activity and how you, in a few short months, can become a skilled and competent sailor.
Suppose you don’t own a sailboat or have no intentions of buying one? What can you do with this knowledge and skill once you have learned how to sail? Approximately 70% of my students, immediately after completing my course theory and water weekend, venture off to local lakes where they can rent and successfully sail smaller boats (some as large as 25 feet) by themselves. You can also get a lot of sailing time with boat owners (like myself) who are often looking for crew. In addition, I teach a very comprehensive Navigation and Coastal Piloting course. What is unique about this course is that all of the material covered in this course is the very same navigation information which you must know in order to get your own Coast Guard Captain’s license. With this certificate, you can even do new-yacht deliveries or set up your own sailing and chartering business. I am also available for crewed charters, i.e., voyages of one or more days and nights, skippered by me, in which you can decide the destination. Imagine sailing to Newport, Rhode Island or Nantucket or wherever you wish, while living aboard, learning while we sail (or just totally relaxing), and thoroughly enjoying the whole experience. Why choose my sailing course over other sailing courses? My course is the most comprehensive (other schools require that you take two or three courses to get the same information), the most thorough (my student-to-teacher ratio is no more than 4:1 on the water weekend when hands-on participation and “experimentation” is encouraged), and the least expensive (for the same amount of information, my competitors charge at least three or four times more). In addition, I believe that my boat is still the largest and most comfortable boat on which to “live and learn”.
